There is no legal ibogaine treatment in Arizona. Ibogaine remains a Schedule I controlled substance under federal law, and no Arizona clinic can administer it. But in 2025 Arizona became the second state, after Texas, to put public money behind ibogaine research, and that decision keeps the state in the ibogaine news cycle.

The push started as HB 2871, introduced in February 2025 by state Representative Justin Wilmeth of Phoenix, and landed in the fiscal year 2026 state budget signed in late June 2025: a $5 million general-fund appropriation to the Arizona Department of Health Services to award a grant for certified clinical research on ibogaine for neurological diseases, specifically traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. Lawmakers framed the state's $5 million as a match toward a roughly $10 million trial, with former US Senator Kyrsten Sinema publicly pledging to raise the private half.
The Arizona Biomedical Research Centre opened grant applications on October 3, 2025 and closed them on November 19, 2025, with funding running up to five years from the award. It is a real program with real money. It is also research: trials of this kind report results in years, not months.
Arizona has not decriminalized ibogaine, has not created an access program, and has no licensed clinic. Possession and administration remain federal crimes, and anyone offering ibogaine sessions inside the state is operating underground, in exactly the kind of unmonitored setting where the deaths in the ibogaine literature happened. Ibogaine prolongs the QT interval and can trigger a fatal arrhythmia; the things that manage that risk are EKG screening, ACLS-trained staff, continuous cardiac monitoring and a real hospital plan. Supervised treatment means Mexico, and Arizona sits closer than most states. The Baja corridor is the usual route: a roughly 90-minute nonstop from Phoenix to San Diego, or a five-to-six hour drive on I-8, then a clinic pickup at the border; Tijuana clinics sit about twenty minutes past the crossing and Rosarito about forty. The Caribbean corridor works too, with nonstop Phoenix to Cancún service in roughly four hours for the clinics in Cancún and Playa del Carmen.
Published prices in July 2026 run from about $3,500 for short retreat programs to $30,000 for extended medical detox, with most standard 7-day detox programs between $7,500 and $15,500. The cost guide lists every published price, including which clinics publish nothing.
Whatever corridor you choose, hold every clinic to the same bar: a 12-lead EKG reviewed before dosing, ACLS-trained staff present, continuous monitoring, and a stated plan for the nearest hospital.
