There is no legal ibogaine treatment in the USA. Ibogaine is a Schedule I controlled substance in all fifty states, no licensed clinic exists anywhere in the country, and every American who receives supervised ibogaine treatment today does so abroad, almost always in Mexico.
What has changed is momentum. Seven states introduced ibogaine bills in 2025, Texas put $50 million behind a clinical trial, Colorado built the first pilot-program framework, and in April 2026 the White House ordered federal agencies to accelerate the research pathway. This page tracks all of it, updated July 2026.
Ibogaine sits on Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, which makes possession and administration federal crimes regardless of state law. On April 18, 2026 the President signed an executive order on accelerating treatments for serious mental illness that directs the FDA and DEA to establish a Right to Try access pathway for psychedelic drugs including ibogaine compounds, and commits $50 million in federal ibogaine research funding. That is the strongest federal signal to date, and it is still a research and process order: as of July 2026 it has not opened any legal treatment route.
